Tudor Submariner 79190
79190
The 79190 was Tudor's final Submariner. It entered the catalogue in 1995, near the end of a diving-watch line that had begun in 1954. It kept the late Submariner's 39 mm steel case, automatic movement and date, but replaced the raised acrylic cover with sapphire. The magnifying lens remained above the calendar window.
That change is easier to see than the reference number suggests. The sapphire cover gives the face a flatter outline, while deeper notches around the rotating timing ring make its edge more pronounced. Round hour markers, a large triangle at twelve and broad luminous hands preserve the familiar diving-watch layout. The case did not have to grow to receive these revisions.
Blue and black dials were available. The ring around them deserves a second look because not every 79190 used the same insert. Tudor's archive shows a 1997 example with an engraved, polished-steel ring, a treatment it says first appeared that year. On that version the outer scale changes from a dark frame to another bright metal surface around the face. It is a documented branch of the reference, not a description of every 79190.
Inside is the ETA 2824-2, an automatic time-and-date movement. The bracelet is a Tudor-signed three-link design. These are familiar elements, and much of the watch is a continuation of the preceding 79090. Tudor changed the cover, the bezel's grip and, on some examples, the surface of the timing scale.
The family last appeared in Tudor's catalogue in 1999. The 79190 therefore occupies a short final chapter, after the acrylic Submariners and before the Black Bay and Pelagos gave Tudor's diving watches new names.
